Total Eclipse 2017

Itinerary for our Total Eclipse program to be held at JPL on Aug. 21, 2017
Total Eclipse 2017
Total Solar Eclipse August 21, 2017

Want to celebrate the eclipse, but don't want to leave the area?  Stay here in Jerseyville where you will be able to experience close to the total eclipse and fun family activities as well.  Your Jerseyville Public Library and Jersey Community Hospital have teamed up with activities from sunrise until 2:00 p.m.

  • 6:00 a.m.--Start your day with JCH Wellness Center Director Tom Smith for a 2-mile sunrise walk taking off from the Center.  That activity, as well as all use of the Wellness Center itself until 2:00 p.m. is free to members and non-members.

  • 11:00 a.m.--Festivities begin at JPL.  Youth activities include a "walk on the moon" bounce house, "play on the moon" sand pit, sun and moon tic, tac, toe, and a sun weaving craft.  We will also begin live streaming from NASA upstairs in our new meeting room.

  • 11:45 a.m.--Sack lunches from Jersey Community Hospital will be passed out.  You can choose from a turkey sandwich, chips, and cookie OR a turkey sandwich, pasta salad, and a piece of fruit; each lunch costs $2.50 and will include lemonade or tea.  To order a lunch, please call the Library @ 618.498.9514 or the Wellness Center @ 618.498.3500; deadline to order is Thursday, August 17 @ 9:00 p.m.

  • 12:30 p.m.--Lunch and Learn with Unit 100 JCHS teachers Julie Breden and Robin Downing.  Enjoy your sack lunch -- that you bought or brought from home -- in the Library's meeting room and learn about the eclipse from the teachers or take your lunch upstairs and view the live stream.

  • 1:10 p.m.--We'll begin passing out free eclipse viewing glasses in the Library parking lot.  Please bring yours if you've already received a pair from us or from another location as we have a limited supply.  After the eclipse has passed over, get a "sun or moon" snowcone!

Just a reminder:  During the hours of our event on Monday, August 21, we WILL NOT be doing regular library things like checking out/checking in, internet, or passing out the wi-fi password as all staff will be busy with eclipse-related activities.
