Contests & Challenges

Reading Challenge

Complete the Reading Challenge and earn tickets for a chance to win bigger prizes--like books or toys!

  1. The reading levels are divided into 3 groups:
    *Read to
    *Beginning Reader
    *Chapter Book Reader
  2. Tell us your reading level at the circulation desk and we'll give you the first paper to complete.  Each paper will tell you your reading goals to earn tickets and win prizes.
  3. Turn in your sheet every 2 weeks to pick up your prize.  Also, pick up your new reading sheet.
  4. We will keep track of how many tickets you earn based on the information provided on your reading sheets.
  5. Age-appropriate prizes will be color coded by reading level and available for ticket drop on July 26.
  6. A list of prizes will hopefully be available by July 18 for those unable to redeem their tickets in person.

Country Clues Contest

Each week there will be 3 clues given about a specific country.  Clue #1 on Monday, Clue #2 on Wednesday, & Clue #3 on Friday.  Figure out the country and win a small prize.

Cardboard Family Challenge

Let's get creative!  Pick up a blank foam board from the Jerseyville PL.  Create a scene or structure that relates to a fantasy world from a children's book, e.g. Narnia, Wonderland, Hundred Acre Wood.  Use everyday items like cardboard, yarn, straws, etc. to bring your creation to life!  Structures must fit on the foam board and be no taller than 3 feet!

Bring your finished product to the library on Monday, July 23 @ 7 p.m.  The winning design will receive a $100 JCBA certificate.

Arts & Crafts

Kindergarten comes on Wednesdays @ 10 a.m; Grades 1-5 come on Wednesdays @ 1 p.m.  June 20 is Picture Day for the autograph book.  ALL OTHER CRAFT DAYS WILL BE MESSY; please dress your children accordingly.  Thank you.

Special Event -- Baby Zoo Party

Tuesday, June 26 from 1 - 2:30 p.m.

This party allows you to visit and pet a wide variety of animals.  These animals can vary seasonally, but generally include:  mini baby goats, mini baby sheep, mini baby pigs, bunnies, guinea pigs, chicks, and ducklings!

Tuesday, July 10 from 10 - 11:30 a.m.

Come learn how animated films are made, how to draw Drac, and how to sound like him, too!

Friday Events from 1 - 3 PM (for K - Grade 5)--Registration Required!

You will be allowed to register for 1 event.  Any remaining openings will be announced and filled on June 20.

June 22

Star Wars Party--
You have been chosen to train as a Jedi Knight.  Will the Force be with you?

June 29

Play Water Dodgeball (with sponge balls.)  Be sure to wear sunscreen and bring a towel to dry off!!  (This takes place at the library under the tent.)

July 6

USA Party
Play games and do science experiments--all following a theme of USA.


July 13

Color Tag!
Wear all white for this fun color war.  Color powder, drinks, & snacks provided.  This event takes place at Lion's Club Park; please drop off/pick up there.

July 20

Whoville Party
Come party like a Who!  No small-hearted Grinch's allowed.  Fun games & snacks.


PRIZE PARTY!!--Friday, July 27 from 6 - 8 PM

Swim party at the city pool at Donor Park.  Enjoy a snack & see if you won a prize!   Registration requested for this event by July 23.
